Setting in northwest Tanzania around 150 kilometres west of Mwanza at the entrance to Emini Pasha Gulf, Rubondo National Park is a haven for water birds as well as big animals. This is Africa’s largest island national park with a total area of about 240 square kilometres.

Rubondo Island National Park offers many deserted sandy beaches that border directly the forest. Rubondo Island is a haven for the endangered chimpanzee.
Other common animals include black and white colobus monkeys, elephants, giraffes, and antelopes, hippos, crocodiles and many bird species, tilapia fish and hippopotami.
Rubondo Island National Park also provides shelter to a good population of bird species around 300 in number which is Omini residents.
Rubondo is one of the few areas in Tanzania where one can encounter rare sitatunga.
Sport fishing is done in specified areas and bird watching is along the shore, in the forest and on the bird breeding islands. There are various places which are preserved by the park for cultural tours. You can visit these places also.
