Stretching from Lake Victoria in the East to the border of Rwanda in the west, Burigi Chato National Park is an authentic piece of wilderness. The park covers an area of 4,707 squire kilometres and became the 4th largest national park in Tanzania. It contains freshwater lakes, long hills, rocky crags along escarpments, deeply set valleys lined with forests and sprawling plains. The park also involves the other ecosystems of Rwanda Akagera National Park and Uganda’s Kikati Game Reserve, Rangeland (north of the Katungo River) and the lake Mburo National Park. The major drawback of the park is Lake Burigi, the third-largest lake in the nation that you can sight on your Tanzania Safari Tour. The park also houses plenty of African wildlife which is a delight for the eyes of any visitors. Apart from that, you can find many rarely-found bird species in Burigi Chato National Park.
The dry season, between June to October is the best time to visit Burigi. The weather remains dry with a comfortable temperature with mild nights and warm days. During this time, the park’s rich wildlife can be concentrated around the lakes and the charming fresh waterholes. There are two specific rainfall peaks in this region, one is between November and December and the other in March and April. The beginning of the wet season comes with the first rains in October. Still, most of the locations are accessible due to the mountain terrain.
