Best Time To Visit Mikumi

The best time to visit Mikumi National park is during the dry season runs between June to October. During this time wildlife sightings can be amazing as they are found gathering around the waterholes. Thanks to the thin vegetation that makes it easier to spot. The wet season from November to May also has its own advantages as this is the calving season. The rains give life to the vegetation making the landscapes look vibrant. This is also an ideal time for birding and photographic safaris.

Wildlife At Mikumi

Mikumi National Park is a great hub for Tanzania wildlife safaris that offers a spectacular concentration of animals including four of the Big5 (lions, leopards, elephants and buffaloes. The northern region of the park is a favourite ground for buffalos. The southern part of the plain supports a plethora of wildlife including wild dogs, elands, elephants, giraffes, zebras, leopards, lions, impalas, sable antelopes, warthogs, waterbucks, wildebeests and many others. Yellow baboons, impala and reedbuck are some commonly seen animals that you can find along the Mkata River. You can also watch crocodiles and hippos wallowing in the Hippo Pool, one of the major attractions in Mikumi. In addition to the wildlife, the park is also a great habitat for around 400 bird species.
